Waugh’s Dashing Ton Gets Win for Australia
HONG KONG: Embattled Australia Captain Mark Taylor failed with the bat again, scoring just four, as his side raced to a four-wicket victory over a Rest of the World X1, May 11.
The Australians, on a one-day stopover in Hong Kong on their way to England for the Ashes series, reached their target of 246 with 11.2 overs to spare, thanks to a dazzling 116 in 66 balls fromr Mark Waugh.
Waugh completed his century in 91 minutes, hitting 11 fours and nine sixes to all points of the tiny Kowloon Cricket Club ground.
He reached his century with a huge six which carried into the adjoining bowling green where a ladies’ match was in progress.
The ferocity of Waugh’s hitting carried the Australians to 248 in just 28.4 overs.
Fine innings by India’s two illustrious sons of distinguished fathers (Sanjay of Vijay Manjrekar and Rohan of Sunil Gavaskar) were the highlights of World XI. Sanjay made 80 and Rohan unbeaten 51 and helped the World X1 to 245 for eight. (Reuter)
