Gavaskar Chief Director at Cricket Academy

CALCUTTA: Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar will take over as the Chief Director of the Cricket Academy to be set up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Gavaskar has agreed to take over the responsibility on an honorary basis, BCCI Secretary Jagmohan Dalmiya said in a release here, June 10.

"Mr Gavaskar will be playing a crucial role in setting up the academy and its operations," Dalmiya said.

Commenting on the nature of the job, he said, "The Board will certainly give a lot of credence to his views on the overall structure of the Academy as well as modalities of the coaching and the training to be imparted by the Academy."

The venue of the proposed Academy is yet to be decided. Earlier, the Board had started a curatorship program with former all-rounder Kapil Dev as the Chief Director.

"With great cricketers like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar actively helping in the Board’s programs, this will certainlya new era in the development of Indian cricket," Dalmiya added. (PTI)
