Selection of US National Carrom Team
DURHAM, NC: Three Indian Americans figure in the four-man US National Carrom team that will participate in the Third International Carrom Federation (ICF) Cup tournament, in London, July 21-23.
The US team, in order of placement after the qualifying tournament, is: 1. Amit Kelkar, Southbridge, MA; 2. Harshal Moraparia, Green Bay, WI; 3. Billy Stevens, Durham, NC; 4.
The United States Carrom Association held the US National Carrom Championship Tournament at the Wellesley Community Center, Wellesley Hills, MA, June 7-8. The tournament was produced by the Alpha Chapter of the New England Carrom Association and sponsored by 2Square Carromboards.
As the qualifying tournament for the US National Carrom Team, selections were made for the four- person team to represent the USCA at the International Tournament, sponsored by the UK Carrom Federation under the auspices of the International Carrom Federation.

More than 20 competitors from eight States competed in the qualifying tournament, in singles and doubles. A Swiss scoring system was used to conduct league play through five rounds to determine seeding for the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals and semifinals were played on a single knockout basis.
A $1,000 purse was distributed to the finalists: Amit Kelkar ($400), Harshal Moraparia ($250), Billy Stevens ($100), and the top seeded doubles team of Amit Kelkar and David MacCrellish ($250). The purse was offered by 2Square Carromboards, the Official Carromboards of the USCA and equipment supplier to the US Nationals, and the New England Carrom Association.
The Third ICF Cup will draw the world’s greatest Carrom players from more than a dozen countries: India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Malaysia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, UK, France, Netherlands, and some other countries in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. There is both a team competition and a singles event and each Federation is allowed one team of four players.
